Newton's First Law of Motion is also called the Law of Inertia. It states that an object in motion will stay in motion and an object at rest will stay at rest unless the objects are acted on by an outside force. As I was using this basic principle to describe a much more complex concept for a physics lab, I realized that this scientific fundamentalism is analogous to the abortion debate that has been so consuming for me lately. The "object," in this case, is the abortion industry, and its unit vector, currently at a magnitude of forty-five million babies, is headed in the death-positive direction. In order to change this velocity, the pro-life movement will have to rise up as a powerful and formidable force of advocacy for the life of children.
